A collective groan emits from the office whenever email is down, but an email outage doesn’t have to mean work stops. Take advantage of the break and boost your productivity by doing one or more of these things:
- Call a client or coworker. Reach out to someone who you owe an email. Pick up the phone or stop by her office; she’ll appreciate the extra effort.
- Organize. On an average day, it’s nearly impossible to find an hour or two to declutter your workspace. Use the downtime to clear off your desk and file that stack of papers.
- Focus on a project. It’s rare to find uninterrupted time. Concentrate on a particularly tough project that could benefit from your undivided attention.
