The iPad (and MP3 players in general) are great inventions, but with great power comes great responsibility. In order to prevent ear damage, you may want to set a volume cap on the music player app. To do so, go into Settings -> Music -> Volume Limit, and adjust the slider to set the limit (it may be useful to have some music playing, too, so you can get an idea of what the volume limit is).
